Web Stuff

Note this was written when this web site was hosted by Google’s Blogger. It was to avoid the problem described below that I moved the site to WordPress in April 2008.

I’m updating chapters 1 to 3 with the latest versions. These are not the final versions, just the latest of many revisions.

The trouble with publishing new versions is that comments that people make become disconnected from the original text. I’m chaning the text but keeping the same page URL so taht links still work. It would be better if I created new pages, since then comments would stay with the original text.

Obviously what I need is a secretary who can do all this donkey work. Or perhaps just a donkey. But then is it worth it? Will anyone care about what comments were made on what pages a week after they were made? Apart from me and the original comment’s author.

I got an email junk mail the other week from SitePal and decided that I would add a speaking avatar to Hotu and TC web sites. But I don’t like their costs so I’d build one of my own.
I’ll use TextAloud to create the speech (Sitepal uses AT&T Natural Voices too) and Frameforge was the obvious choice for the graphics. Unfortunately it’s not easy to remove the background from Frameforge images and I wanted to be able to swap backgrounds, so I invested $50 in upgrading Daz Studio to Victoria 4. She’s great, with wonderful powers of expression, but very slow running on a 750 meg XP machine and you can’t create animation in Studio 1.5. Also I’d have to pay extra to put clothes on her and she looks a bit bare at present. I’ve got a bra for her but I don’t think would do.
Now thinking about going back to FF and either just having a fixed background or removing it in Flash. I’ll be using Flash to animate the character.
Guess I should have just taken photos of myself!
